Michael Xun Liu, Esq.

Michael Liu focuses his practice on intellectual property disputes and patent litigation, primarily in the life science industry.  Michael has handled every stage of patent litigation, from complaint through trial.  In addition to litigating district court cases, Michael has represented clients in IPRs before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and in appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Michael has also published articles on the role of post-grant proceedings in U.S. patent disputes, which have appeared in the Journal of Intellectual Property Law and the Baylor Law Review.

Prior to joining Williams & Connolly, Michael clerked for Judge Todd M. Hughes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Michael graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School in 2014, and holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University. Michael’s graduate research focused on the design of low-cost diagnostic devices.
